Change of plans...

Meeting for lunch.....10 more sleeps until the 'real' visit!! Posted by Picasa

So Hillary called my mom this morning explaining that something (or someone) had messed up with what time the flight left from Pakistan....and they missed their flight!

My parents had already driven down to Orangville to stay at my aunts yesterday and were heading to the airport this morning - Josh was supposed to catch a RobertQ from Toronto and come stay with us for a week (until we went up)

Needless to say; plans changed a little! So we decided to meet in London for lunch and pick up Josh. It made their trip a little less wasted because they got to see us:)

No worries - Hillary will be arriving in Toronto on Tuesday sometime -- but until Mom and Dad cool down a little, I think she's on her own for a ride to the Bay!!

It was a nice little surprise visit, can't wait for the real Vacation in a week and half!!

Piercings and Pakistan

Hilsy is on her way home from Pakistan today -- she called here to wish Tim a Happy Birthday on Wednesday. Tim asked her what the "spooky little echo" is over the phone. He thought it was cool that they could talk on the phone even though she was all the way over the Ocean!

And apparently she's coming home with an extra hole in her nose....(yeah, my mom is thrilled.)

I can't wait to see her in 11 days!!

Lots O' Pictures!

We've had a busy few days -- so think of this as a photo blog for now. ;)

** and there's lots more pics and videos on the Web Album

Garnet and I both had the day off for Tim's Birthday -- we went out for breakfast after a great wrestling match on the bed for about an hour! And then we decided to head to Storybook Gardens in London for the day. We ended the day out at Papa's for a chilly swim (and cake and presents too!!)

Today after I worked we went out for lunch and then to Bluewater fun Park. (no pictures of that though -- didn't want the camera getting wet, and no need to see me in my bathing suit - it's just not necessary, alright?!!)

I'm tired and still have about 5 loads of laundry to fold so - wish me luck -- I'll be up til midnight folding.

But all the fun I've had with my big five year old is worth putting off the housework anytime!!

Lots of CAKE!

What? Do I have something on my face?

Presents from Papa Little and Grammie Frenchie (yeah, that's a mouthful for the poor kid)

Big enough to eat!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TIM!!!!!!

My little man is 5 today!! I can't believe it -- 5?! Where do the years go?!

Garnet and I woke him up at 8 today;

"Hey buddy, What's today?....How old are you?"

A little hand with five outstretched fingers emerged from under the covers -

"I'm five....but I really want to sleep in...Goodnight."

What a kid.

(and you wanted to call him at 7 mom???!)

Party Animals

Tim had a fun weekend with Grandma and Grandpa! They came to get him Saturday morning - we had breakfast with them and said goodbye. He was so eager to go he barely got out "bye mom and dad..." before "ok, let's go"

On Saturday Grandma Anne took Tim to the Circus! It was his first time and he absolutely loved it!! He said his favorite parts were the elephants doing tricks and the 7 motorcycles all going around in circles in the cage .

Garnet and I had a nice day to ourselves. We did some running around and errands, I got a nice workout in and some shopping and then we went to a party at a friend's house. It was a nice time.

After waking up to a quiet house and a beautiful little sleep in (twice in a week is a BIG deal for parents!) we got ready and went to meet Tim in London and have his Birthday Party there. I can't believe our little guy is going to be 5 on Wednesday!! It seems like yesterday he was my little baby! Garnet was in charge of most of the picture taking so there's a lot of back shots, heads cut off, looking away and crazy faces (he brings out the best in all of us!) - but you get the idea that it was a fun time! (And that Tim is a spoiled little monkey!!)

Since he lost a lot of his toys in the flood it was easy to pick out presents this year! Grandma and Grandpa replaced his huge helicopter with one that has 2 propellers!! (simply heaven for a fan addict like Tim), Uncle Matti spoiled him with a huge remote control truck! Aunt Jenni gave him a beautiful scrap book - we can always count on her to be sentimental!! Some of the pictures in it were from his first birthday -- time goes by so fast.

Cake Time! Everybody Sing!

Something is really funny...

Aaaah!! I'm FIVE! (almost)

Didn't catch that? I'm FIVE!

Parties Rule!

Tim's best buddy had his Birthday Party (they're only 6 days apart) --- which was a nice escape for all of us! They had a Spiderman Slip-and-Slide, Spiderman Pinata, a Spiderman Cake, water guns, Sparkelers and a Camp Fire to end the evening!
This hug was quick to turn into a wrestling match!!

Update on the Chaos

The clean up is almost done. Our insurance adjuster came today -- it went ok. She seemed pretty reasonable about stuff. They want to get someone to look at the damage to the computers, and the washer and dryer and give a quote on repair or replacement. So it will be a few more days before everything is worked out. I can't believe they'd allow a repair and make us do our laundry in shitsoaked appliances - but hey, if they can save a few bucks!

We'll definitely be getting new ones - even if it's out of our own pocket. That's just nasty.

The clean up crew had to go through our garbage pile and bags in the back today - what a job. I felt really bad for all those guys. They had to like pick out every toy of Tim's and try to identify it...that was interesting. I decided to help them after a while when I realized that they were picking the toys out and saying "What's this?" playing with it for a while and sticking a name on it.
"Hmmm....looks a like a house..or something?"
"No that's a Train Station - for the train set that's it's surrounded by."
"It's like a Dog...or something."
"That's Blue...uh from Blue's Clue's."
They had to take measurements of everything - the desk, book shelf, tv stand, carpet, play mats, comforters. Identify everything they could by the upc numbers or whatever they could find.

Poor guys.

Sarnia is in some serious trouble. Some stores at the mall were sewage attacked as well as the majority of our neighbouring community. I smell law suits coming out their hoo-ha. And thanks to some serious cleaning, and that blessed dehumidfier thats all I smell!

Our insurance compnay is even paying us for our labour because we did most of the cleaning in our unit. I thought that was nice.

Grandma and Grandpa are coming to take Tim on the weekend - which will be soooo nice. My poor little buddy is pretty frustrated and bored around here lately. His birthday is next week -- and we've been neglecting him the last few days.
Garnet and I will have another overnight date night on Saturday -- wow 2 in a week, we won't know what to do with eachother!! ;)

So we're surviving....and I still haven't cried!!

Chaos

Sometimes it's a really good thing to have a really awesome day -- it's almost as though it emotionally prepares you for the next one...that might cause a nervous breakdown;

Tim had his first sleepover on Friday night -- he's slept over places before but not like a real "sleepover" where his buddy invites him and it's not us needing a babysitter overnight.
So, Garnet and I had an awesome date night! It's so nice when you don't have to worry about getting the babysitter home afterwards, or being out too late to wake up early...though it was a little weird to be able to sleep in and not hear Tim in the morning. It was an awesome night for all of us.

We went to Blue Water Fun Park on Saturday with the same family that he slept over at - and got Thunderstormed and rained out. They reassured us (because there are no rainchecks or refunds) that they've never had to close the park due to weather. They informed us that they would shut the slides and activities down for lightening but that's usually only for a few minutes.
We left for lunch and returned hoping for the park to be re-opened...but it was shut down. There was so much rain that the pools were overflowing and they couldn't keep the right pH levels.
We were lucky enough (after some complaining) to get vouchers for another visit.

We came home to 4-5 inches of water in our basement.

That was yesterday at 2:30 in the afternoon---- this is the first time that I've sat down since then. Apparently the sewers in Sarnia were so backed up that it had to choose a bunch of basements to fill...we were one of the lucky ones. All 24 units in our condo complex were some of the lucky ones and a whole wack of other homes in the city.

Yeah, we love Sarnia -- wanna come visit? Like the pollution isn't bad enough - the city is also too poor to fix the water drains that fill and cause massive road flooding everytime it rains. They wait for something like this to happen and piss us off as well as the insurance companies and everyone else that's affected - and they'll eventually have to put out the money and fix it anyways! No such thing as preventative maintenance in this wonderful city I guess. Our condo corp's insurance company will cover the walls and structural damage, our insurance company should cover the rest of the stuff that we lost. We just have to come up with the $1000 deductible - fun stuff.

I love my husband. I would have sat down and cried for a few hours but he's very calm under pressure and the hardest worker I've ever met. With his reassurance and perserverance we got the whole thing cleaned up and organized rather quickly. A few buckets of bleach and a new Rigid Wet/Dry Vacuum got rid of the gross stuff and putrid smell. The clean up crew was in today to take the walls out and clean up a bit more we now have massive fans and a dehumidifier in our basement. We'll be dealing with the insurance company tomorrow - having an adjuster come out and trying to convince him that the pile of junk in our back yard was actually worth something. They'll probably be jackasses and give us nothing because we all know how much Insurance companies love to take our money but as for giving it to us when it's needed...well, thats just so diffficult for them.

I'll try to keep ya'll posted on the developments when I can - seeing as our computer was one of the many things that drowned. I'm writing this on a mixture of the salvaged computer guts from the 3 computers that Garnet had in our basement waiting to fix.

I know I'll look back and remember this time with a proud smile in a few years. Just another obstacle in our life to overcome - we've had plenty others we can make it through this one.

But as for right now, I still just want to sit down and cry.....

Campout at Papa's

With such a hot weekend we decided to just camp out at Papa's instead of driving out there and back both days. We had a nice swim at dusk, campfire, short sleep in the trailer and another swim at dawn! Very relaxing - and some good family time!

Telemarketers and my personal life...

I just had the weirdest experience with a telemarketer - ever.

The ring interrupted my nightly workout and I was racing around trying to find the phone. (The great thing about portable phones and 3 levels is that you can guarrantee you'll always be on the furthest floor from them...and even though we have 2 - they will always be right beside eachother.)

Anyways - needless to say I was breathless answering the phone. Upon hearing them ask for Mrs. Forsyth (maiden name) I tune out and look for the first second to interrupt and say I'm not interested. I'm sorry, to all the telemarketers out there - but you're like nails on a chalkboard to me.

"Not right now, thank you" I say shortly

"Alright, thank you for your time" I was just about to hang up when he asked

"Are you alright ma'am? You sound out of breath."

"I'm fine, I'm just in the middle of something - and I couldn't find the phone."

(chuckle) "Sorry to interrupt...um...whatever you were doing. I know these phone calls can ruin the mood" click.

....ummm....what the?!...

I should listen more carefully next time to who these companies are that are calling -- I'm sure they'd love to know that their employees are commenting on people's sex lives!

...and for the record; I was working out.

Garden Growing Good!

It's all coming along great! We're all excited to start eating it!
Garnet is still the miracle grow king...Tim helps himself to the lettuce all the time, stuffs his mouth as full as he can and is eagerly awaiting any more sign of edible food.

I've weeded a few times while fighting the mosquitoes and the rain! It's almost like the rain waits for me to get in there and starts to downpour...that's ok muddy is good.

Look how high the corn is!

Gonna have a salad!

Party it up, clown...it's summer time!!

Last night was a 30th Birthday Party for our friend Krista. We know Krista and her husband, Steve and the couple that was throwing the party for her but not really anyone else going. Garnet had to work midnights so I stepped out of my comfort zone and went. Tim was in heaven cause there was one other little boy and a bunch of girls! I was planning to stay for a little while and head out early if things got a little crazy. We ended up staying until 2 am! Tim has never stayed up that late in his life!! He had a 3 hour nap yesterday afternoon and was more awake than I was at that hour - running around with a few of the other children that had enough energy to last that late! There was a campfire and dogs and marshmallows and chips -- he was in his glory!

Tonight we are going with some friends to the fireworks for Canada Day. So yeah - we had a little nap today again to prepare for another late night!!

It was last year's Canada Day that we were on the Boat watching fireworks with Baby Julia and her family! She was a typical, happy healthy 6 month old baby - it was a month later that she was dignosed with Leukemia. It's incredible how far she has come in the year -- and the journey she's been through! We'll be thinking of her tonight!

Tim graduated Junior Kindergarten on Wednesday!! Wow...how time flies. It seemed like yesterday that he was a little baby in my arms - and now he's my little man. His report card was AMAZING and his teacher was very proud of his accomplishments this year....and of course so are we!! He's ecstatic about finally being a Senior Kindergartner next year!

Between the beach, the pool and trampoline, pool parties, playdates with friends and all the other great things about summer -- I'll try to keep updating. It might just be pictures for a while unless something crazy happens (which we can usually count on in this family.)

Other side of the world...

My beautiful sister Hillary is on her way to Pakistan....she called this afternoon from London, England to wish us a Happy Canada Day. Yeah, way to rub it in Hilsy!! She had a 15 hour stop over so they got a tour while they were there...lucky girl!
She will be returning the end of July and we will see her in August when we are up in the Bay for 2 weeks. I'll miss her -- but this is an incredible opportunity for her. I'm sure that she will learn so much and grow even more.
